A Day Off

A fair amount of the Herald Staff departs for a convention in D.C. tomorrow, so they moved our deadline up to today. Of course, I made my deadline.

But a few thoughts:

-The Western volleyball team's season has taken an interesting twist. Jenna Gideon went down with a shoulder injury on Saturday night. And Outside hitter Whitney McCory is out with a back injury. Thus, allowing freshman Emily Teegarden an opportunity to fill big shoes as the Lady Toppers enter the stretch run of their season.

If McCory was healthy, it maybe possible to leave her on the outside and move Brittany Bowen over. Bowen was a middle hitter and made the switch over to outside over the last two years. This way there was the most experience out there possible.

How Teegarden will respond will be interesting. I don't forsee her getting more than 15-18 attempts in the match. Megan Argabright and Aquila Orr's load will increase until Gideon returns, which hopefully is soon because there is no worse way to end a career than on the bench. Bowen and outside Abbie Siljendahl have to prove thy're consistent, they weren't as consistent this past weekend. We'll see how much pressure FIU coach Danjela Tomich puts on Teegarden and how she repsonds.

I dont think there is any doubt this team isnt going to be prepared for the weekend, Travis Hudson knows how to coach, it will be how they respond to the challenges. If they do, good things are ahead.

-With my stuff in today, it means a day off tomorrow. Ill be able to watch the World Series, catch up on some studying and have a generally relaxed day. Its not very often I get Wednesday afternoons off.
