In one corner we have a team that had 200-1 odds to win the World Series. In the other corner we have team backed by a four state region, theyve been jinxed, theyve been winners. They are Red Sox Nation.
Get to know names like Troy Tulowitzki and Jeff Francis. They're up and coming.
You already know Manny and Big Papi, and Dice-K, and Coco. The Rockies have a $54 million payroll. That's what you have to shell out just to get into Fenway.
America loves the underdog, unfortantley that's where the conflict of interest comes, the people love the Red Sox. Everywhere they go they draw a crowd. Do you even know when the Rox made the last stop in your town?
Its a matcup you don't want to miss. A matchup not many expected at the end of September, let alone in April.
As a Royals fan it would be natural to support the Rox. Low budget, young guys, their scrappy, their fun to watch, they know how to relax.
But there is a mystiqe about the Red Sox. Something about that Dirty Water. Something about Sweet Caroline. Ive walked on Yawkey way. Stood on top of the Monster, been in the old .409 club. Sat in the Press box at Fenway.
I took a trip to Cape Cod this summer. I watched the games on NESN, stood in crowded New England bars, waiting for the clam chowder to be served. Nowhere else in America do they love baseball like they do in New England.
You have to respect that.
So with that said. Beckett wins game one, ending the Rockies amazing streak. But they respond, stunning Red Sox Nation and taking the series back to Denver, where the Rox win game three. Key hits late in the game have the Red Sox down 2-1 in the series. Game four, the Red Sox turn it around. Manny and Papi get big hits and force the series to eventually go back to Fenway.
Five: Beckett is back and another win.
Six, the madness returns to Beantown. Red Sox prevail big in game six. Similar to what they did late in the ALCS.
Papelbon dances. The Sammys flow. The celebration flows onto Yawkey. Chaos in the Cask n Flagon.
So there you have it. Red Sox in 6 in '07.
