There is still a suitcase that hasn't been put away in my room. That kinda sums up the last three weeks. Quick turnarounds and good times. First the Herald "A" Team headed to Tampa where we saw Ty Rogers hit a buzzer beater, San Diego pull an upset, and subsequently WKU made the Sweet 16.
So when we got back from Tampa on a Monday, we headed for Phoenix the next day, leaving little time for things like class, girls, etc. But we're back and what a ride it's been.
Coach Darrin Horn left, Bob Knight was rumored to come to Western but that was a total flop, only sending WKU president Gary Ransdell into frustration with the BG Media. I mean c'mon seriously, was the General going to sit in Terminal B of Nashville International on a Monday night waiting to head to Denton, TX for a mid-week matchup with North Texas.
Doubt it.
So now we wait for a new coach to be announced. My personal choice would be current assistant Scott Cherry. Cherry is very nice guy and seems to be well liked by his players. He also comes across much more personable than Darrin Horn, which is something that hampered Horn in his time at WKU. He didn't seem approachable and you ask most fans and they will probably say they never really knew the real Darrin Horn.
A tight-knit community like Bowling Green needs a coach of the beloved Toppers that can be approached and talked to while he's out to eat at Mariah's on a Friday night. I think Cherry would fit that bill.
I think we'll have about 12 hours notice before we find out when there will be an announcement so that they can give Louisville and Lexington media outlets time to make their way down to Bowling Green for the announcement.
